A former resident shared on Quora: "Based on stories I've heard about other locations, Big Spring was a pretty decent camp. All buildings have A/C, which was important to me, food was decent, case manager and counselor were helpful and available."
The facility is built on the former Webb Air Force Base, which operated until 1977. Some of the original military structures have been repurposed for prison use.
One Yelp reviewer noted positively: "This facility answers the phone when you call & they are helpful."
The camp offers vocational training in Horticulture. Inmates who earn their GED while incarcerated receive $25.00 and a graduation photograph.
