A former inmate named Hoffman reported that during a 2024 lockdown at the camp, windows were screwed shut and prisoners were confined to their rooms without the ability to move around freely.
A Kansas Reflector report (2025) documented concerns including extended lockdowns, delayed medical treatment, restricted family contact, and no access to religious services.
A wife reported her husband "sees sewage backing up into his cell" and that inmates are "sleeping in their jackets" due to heating issues.
The Kansas Federal Public Defenders wrote to the warden in May 2025 about a months-long rat infestation showing "no signs of abating," with reports of rats in food areas and common spaces.
The facility was re-designated from USP to FCI in 2024 to align with its current medium-security status.
