During the August 2020 COVID outbreak, inmate Bobby Williams told CNN: "It came through here so fast that it's out of control... We're packed like sardines." At the outbreak's peak, 1,300 of 1,750 inmates (75%) had tested positive.
One observer noted: "Years ago it was a sweet place to do time. But in recent years, the Seagoville institution has tightened the screws and feels like a borderline high security prison."
D Magazine published a first-person account (2017) describing the intake process: being "photographed, fingerprinted, and asked a list of questions by which to determine if you might be in danger from other inmates."
