In 2005, The Kansas City Star named FCI Texarkana Camp one of the five best federal prisons for white-collar offenders.
The camp offers the RDAP, though the main FCI does not—making camp placement valuable for those seeking sentence reduction through drug treatment.
In 2012, inmate Keith Judd, serving a 17-year sentence for extortion, filed papers to run for president and won 41% of the primary vote in West Virginia against incumbent Barack Obama—an unusual piece of electoral history.
Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was also incarcerated at FCI Texarkana.
The facility uses a visiting point system: each inmate receives 5 points per month, with one point deducted per regular visit and two points on holidays.
