Notes from Alumni
- Piper Kerman served 13 months at Danbury and authored "Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison," which became the basis for the Netflix series.
- An anonymous businesswoman documented her January 2015 arrival in Surviving Danbury Federal Prison: "Everything I read about the humiliating strip search became a reality for me. I was given a number and a uniform." She described walking up the hill thinking "this can't be a prison. There is no locks or bars."
- The same author noted her experience at the Hartford halfway house after release was "ten times worse than prison."
Please remember that experiences are unique and may not reflect today's experience.
