FCI Sheridan (minimum-security camp)
Appearance
Notes from Alumni
- One reported account noted: "All things considered, it was one of the better camps in the federal system."
- In 2012, CNBC named FCI Sheridan one of the 12 best federal prisons. In 2009, Forbes magazine named it one of America's ten cushiest federal prisons. In 2005, The Kansas City Star named it one of the five best for white-collar offenders.
- However, a DOJ Inspector General inspection (2023) found alarming staffing shortages: a backlog of 725 laboratory orders, 274 pending X-rays, and waitlists exceeding 500 names for mental health classes.
- The camp's RDAP program was suspended due to staff shortages, and inmates were "routinely confined to their cells during daytime hours."
- The facility opened in 1989 and is the only federal prison in Oregon. It's designed in a campus style meant to foster rehabilitation.
