Notes from Alumni
- A former inmate told The Marshall Project: "Lee County was the worst. That's an experience I don't want to see nobody go through. It's traumatizing."
- A 2024 NPR investigation gathered names of more than 50 people who said they experienced or witnessed widespread abuse at USP Lee, with lawsuits describing officers "breaking teeth, fracturing ribs and using the N-word."
- In November 2017, five correctional officers were charged with falsifying reports and subsequently pleaded guilty.
- In July 2015, multiple fights broke out that inmates categorized as a riot; a local hospital treated eight people for cuts, stab wounds, and broken teeth.
- The camp houses approximately 80 inmates in dormitory housing, separate from the main high-security facility.
