Notes from Alumni

  • A DC Corrections Information Council inspection (2018) documented inmate concerns: "The environment is very racist toward people of color. The white staff evidently haven't been raised among people of color. The medical care is the worst."
  • Inmates also reported sanitation issues: "There are mice running around in the chow hall while we're eating and running around in the light fixtures."
  • Inmates with life sentences told inspectors they couldn't access programming because staff prioritized people with less time remaining. The warden noted difficulty getting volunteers due to the facility's remote location.
  • The McDowell County Animal Shelter sends dogs to FCI McDowell and FPC Alderson as part of a program to train and socialize shelter animals before adoption.
  • Former Trenton Mayor Tony F. Mack served a 58-month sentence here for bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and extortion.

Please remember that experiences are unique and may not reflect today's experience.
