FPC Lompoc (minimum-security camp)
Federal Prison Camp, Lompoc (FPC Lompoc) is a minimum-security United States federal prison camp for male inmates located adjacent to FCI Lompoc II in Lompoc, California. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The camp is part of the Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex, located approximately 175 miles northwest of Los Angeles near Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Overview
FPC Lompoc is a minimum-security satellite camp that provides housing for low-risk, non-violent inmates. As a federal prison camp, it features dormitory-style housing with limited perimeter barriers. The facility houses approximately 190 inmates who often provide labor support for the adjacent FCI Lompoc II and surrounding federal installations.
The camp originated from Army disciplinary barracks established during World War II on the grounds of Camp Cooke. The Federal Bureau of Prisons assumed control in the 1950s, and the facility opened as Federal Prison Camp Lompoc in 1970 before FCI Lompoc II was established.
Programs
FPC Lompoc offers several programs for inmates:
- Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) - Completers may be eligible for up to one year sentence reduction
- Drug Abuse Education Course
- Literacy and GED programs
- Adult Continuing Education (ACE) courses
Notable Inmates
The Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex has housed several notable inmates over the years:

Notes from Alumni
- Leigh Sprague, a former New York attorney, documented his experience at Lompoc Camp after self-surrendering in May 2014 in A Day at Lompoc Federal Prison Camp (WhiteCollarAdvice, 2016). Serving a 50-month sentence (reduced via RDAP), he wrote: "In the real world, time is a precious commodity: there never seems to be enough. In federal prison, it's just the reverse: too much of a good thing in a bad place." He walked the track 7-10 miles daily, learned guitar, wrote four manuscripts, and helped other inmates with legal appeals.
- Reddit user u/LowKeyModz posted about surrendering to Lompoc Camp in r/ExCons (2022) and received practical advice about camp life, with commenters noting the relatively relaxed atmosphere compared to higher-security facilities.
